Edwin Hubble was born in a small town in Missouri in 1889. He attended high school in Chicago, he excelled in academics and athletics. Other accomplishments was that he broke the high jump record, he was also and varsity basketball player and boxer. He went to Oxford University on a Rhodes scholarship. There he studied law instead of astronomy, then he realized it wasn't for him and went back to astronomy. Edwin Hubble was the first to see other galaxies, develop a system to classify galaxies, explain red shift, and define the Big Bang Theory. |
The Big bang theoryThe Big Bang theory was a theory made by Edwin Hubble that stated that the universe began as a point and has been expanding ever since. It wasn't a explosion more like a expansion.

Moon PhasesThe Moon is large in comparison to the planet that it orbits. It is 27 percent radius of the Earth. The Moon is great distance from Earth, most Moons are a lot closer. Most moon have an icy surface but our Moon has a solid rocky composition. The Moon has not atmosphere so it is really hot. No ersosion occurs on the Moon. When the sun sets the Moon rises with the isde that faces Earh that is fully exposed to sunlight. The Moon phases occur because it orbits Earth. The moon phases are first quarter, waxing crescent, new, waning crescent, third quarter, waning gibbous, full, and finally waxing gibbous.

The Seasons
Seasons are simply caused by the tilt of the earth's axis. The Earth revolves around the sun. The North Pole always points the same way as the Earh revolves around the sun. The Earth's movement around the sun causes seasons. As we move around the sun during the year the amount of sunlight the planet recieves depends, it varies it length.
THE SUN VIRTUAL TOUR QUESTIONS
-Define:
Sunspots- is an area on the sun's face that is slightly cooler and darker than the surrounding material.
Solar Active Region- is a transient area of the solar atmosphere containing strong magnetic fields. dramatic events can occur here, such as sunspots and solar fla
res.
- Define and Temp:
Chromosphere- is an irregular layer above the photo sphere apparently made up entirely of sturctures called spicules. One spicule alone is 600 miles across and up to 6,000 miles. The temperature of the chromosphere is 11,000-36 degrees Fahrenheit
Convective Zone- this is the highest level of the solar interior that extends from the radiative zone to the sun's surface and made up of the "boiling" convection cells. It makes up about 66% of the suns volume but only about 2% of its mass. The temperature is about 5,800 K
Radiative Zone-This is a spherical shell that pusses radiation and diffuses it outward. It takes each photon millions of years to make its way gradually out to the surface. Volume: 32% Mass: 48% The temperature is 9 million degrees Fahrenheit.
Core- this is the region of high temperature and pressure where almost all of the suns nuclear fusion takes place. In the core, hydrogen is fussed into helium releasing energy that ultimately leaves the surface as visible light. The core extends from the center of the sun about 1/4 of the way to the surface. Volume: 2% Mass: almost 50% The temperature is 27 million Fahrenheit.
Corona- is the suns outer atmosphere that extends more than half a million miles from its surface. The temperature can reach to two million degrees Fahrenheit.
-How old is the sun?- 4.6 billion years ago
-How long will the Sun last in its current state?- 5 million
-Summarize the Sun's role in Climate Change- The amount of energy the sun brings to Earth changes the climate. The suns energy output came to a haul and the ice age happened. The suns energy output really changes the climate role on Earth.
-Name two Solar missions and describe their goals- The acrimsat was trying to improve the knowledge of the sun's role in global change. The Sorce was designed to monitor the total output of energy from the sun, which gave the scientists contex that helps them understand the Earth's absorption and radiation of energy.
-What is the Sun's made of (Composition)- The sun is composed of 92.1 hydrogen and 7.8% helium
